I am always in awe of the craftsmanship that can be found in Victorian industrila brickwork. The attention to detail, even though the construction is utilitarian is stunning. These pictures are from Fort Nelson, Fort Widley Battery No2 (projects that I have been lucky enough to have worked on) and a disused railway bridge in my home village all built around the same time. The use of high quality, hard fired engineering bricks, flints and lime combined with the use of arches and brick vaulting in a marine environment has stood the test of time.
